Returning to Brighton for the second time in the 2024 season, Ghost Fishing UK were once again active on the Vale of Leven, a steam trawler now located within the Rampion Windfarm. Previous survey and recovery work gave the team pre-existing knowledge of two large trawl nets entangled within the wreck as well as numerous pots.
With the wind firmly working against them for most of the week, the team first removed several large and hazardous chunks of net before clearing the wreck of pots. With only one large chunk of trawl net remaining, the attention focussed on preparing this net for removal while avoiding the many curious congers!
Although the weather did it’s best to stop any diving, this was another very successful diving project by the team.
