From the 13th-14th April, divers travelled to Plymouth to search primarily for a large trawl net that had been reported on the Glen Strathallan. A detailed survey showed a very large net caught just off the boilers metal core around the base of the net (attached to some tire inners) which was the section that had caught on the wreck. A large wrasse (~1m) was found trapped in it and freed by the divers underwater.
Divers then undertook a recovery dive where the loose end of the net was lifted vertically into a tower. The net was then ‘sausaged’ into a neat and manageable bundle that could be cut free at the base and safely and easily recovered on to the boat.
After recovery, part of the net was sent to our partners at Behaviour Change Cornwall and has been turned into bracelets, which are available to purchase from the Ghost Fishing UK shop.
